Changed
There are moments in our lives, that clearly come from God
And when we look back, it’s holy ground we trod
I’ll tell you of a time, that's become like this for me
Because of it, I’m the better man, than once I used to be
I started out all hurried, rushed to start my day
But can’t remember what for, embarrassed, I must say
Speeding down the highway, towards nothing it seems me now
And that is where it happened, so fast, it seemed like pow
I was just a bit distracted, again I don’t know why
But looked up in the nick of time, to only hear the cry
A woman in a red dress, was out to fix her car
And hurtling down the speedway, I clipped into a bar
The bar it did go hurling, and dashed her in the head
The instant that I saw it, I knew that she’d be dead
In the instant that it happened, time seemed to slow and even stop
My heart was ripped right out my chest, my soul was turned to sop
And as quick as it happened, I hopped right out my car
And sprinted to her aid, and held her in my arms
She was no normal person, that was plain to see
She had a light about her, she was perfect it did seem
Clearly on the edge of death, she was oh so very calm
She looked me right in the eye, with comfort, soothing balm
I begged her for forgiveness, an accident you see
And then she said don’t worry, this is what was meant to be
She said she knew she’d die that day, she knew it with no doubt
She said it was hard to hear at first, but she was never one to pout
And so she dressed her best that morn, because she was soon to go
She must have one last mission left, and then be headed home
Here I was beside myself, and she as calm as summer’s morn
And through the tears of grief I wept, she whispered her last words
She said Son I forgive you, but do one thing for me
As you go on to live your life, keep me in your memory
Devote your life to service, be kind and ever strong
Don’t ever lose your focus, on who you do belong
You’ll even make more mistakes, but don’t let them stop you see
When you feel you’re worthless, please remember me
Read your scriptures daily, take time to speak to God
As you move through this life, hold to the iron rod
There’s one thing we must learn in life, and that’s to live with love
So please my dear, don’t look down, always look to up above
And that was it, her last words, just like that she slipped away
And in those few moments that she had, forever my life changed
And then cops, they showed up, I thought my life was doomed
But my life was saved not once, but twice, as my sentence surely loomed
They checked the purse inside her car, to see who my savior was
And upon return, looked at me, "you won’t believe this, Son
Inside her car she left a note, with ink as red as blood, you see
Just like that you took her life, but she wants you to be free"
Forgive him please is what she wrote, this is what was meant to be
This was the climax of my life, I’m happy now you see
And if he chooses to be the man, I know he can come to be
The sacrifice I’ve been asked to make, will be oh so sweet to me
